You are going to love this key lime pie smoothie! This healthy green smoothie is packed with fruit and vegetables and is high in protein, but tastes just like key lime pie. This refreshing smoothie makes the perfect breakfast or snack.

Refreshing drinks like my virgin piña colada and berry lemonade smoothie are some of my favourite, which is why I am so excited for you to try this delicious smoothie recipe.

Why you will love this smoothie:

    • The flavour! This healthy green smoothie tastes like key lime pie!
    • This smoothie is quick and easy to make and is ready in just a few minutes, just like my watermelon banana smoothie and chocolate raspberry smoothie bowl.
    • It's high in protein. Each serving of this smoothie has over 30 grams of protein, just like my coffee and banana smoothie.
    • This protein shake is gluten free and refined sugar free and can easily be made dairy free, vegan and paleo too.

If you love recipes with hidden veggies you will also love my cherry cheesecake smoothie, vegan cheese sauce and dairy free cauliflower Alfredo Sauce.

    Ingredient notes:

The ingredients needed to make a key lime pie smoothie separated into small bowls.
    • Limes - for both the lime zest and lime juice. You can use either key limes or regular limes to make this smoothie.
    • Yogurt - full fat plain yogurt is used to help thicken this smoothie. I use full fat coconut yogurt to keep it dairy free but you can use any type of plain yogurt that you prefer including greek yogurt to make it higher in protein.
    • Coconut milk - I recommend using full fat coconut milk rather than low fat coconut milk as low fat coconut milk is more watery.
    • Maple syrup - to add a little natural sweetness. You could swap this for honeyl.
    • Spinach - spinach is used to create the beautiful green colour of this smoothie. And don't worry, if you don't like spinach you can't actually taste it. You can really use as much or as little spinach as you like.
    • Collagen peptides - are used to add protein to this smoothie. If you are vegan you can omit the collagen from the recipe, but just note that this will make the recipe lower in protein.
    • Hemp hearts (also known as hemp seeds) - hemp hearts are another source of protein and healthy omega fats.

    Recipe variations and add ins:

    • Feel free to add other seeds such as flax seeds or chia seeds to this smoothie.
    • To give this smoothie even more healthy fats and make it even thicker you can add some avocado.
    • For dairy free: use a dairy free yogurt.
    • To make this smoothie vegan: omit the collagen peptides and use dairy free yogurt.

How to make key lime pie smoothie:

A blender with spinach, hemp seeds, coconut milk, lime zest and lime juice in it.
    1. Step 1: First, place all the ingredients into your high speed blender.
A blender with a green smoothie in it.
    1. Step 2: Then blend everything well until smooth.

    Top tips:

    • Be sure to use a ripe banana to make this smoothie rather than a green banana. You want the banana to be sweet.
    • Serving idea: You can serve this smoothie as is, or add some crushed graham crackers to the top of it to make it even more like key lime pie.

    Key lime pie smoothie FAQs:

    Is this smoothie keto?

    No it is not.

What if I don't have key limes?

No worries, just use regular limes instead.

Can I make this smoothie without yogurt?

Yes you can, just use more coconut milk instead. Just note that this will make the smoothie less thick and lower in protein.

Can I store this smoothie for later?

Yes, you can store it in the fridge in an airtight jar or container for up to 72 hours.

    Can I freeze this smoothie?

Yes you can freeze this smoothie in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months.
