Why you will love this recipe:

    • These healing shots taste so good! A little spicy, a little sweet, a little citrusy, with a hint of lemon.
    • It is so easy to make! You don't need a nut milk bag, juicer or cheesecloth to make this healthy drink. All you need is a blender and a strainer or sieve.
    • It is so much cheaper to make your own immunity shots compared to buying them at the grocery store so this is a great way to save money on groceries.
    • These turmeric ginger shots are a great way to help decrease inflammation, help with joint pain, soothe a sore throat, and improve your overall health.
    • These shots are great to have on hand during cold and flu season!

If you are looking for other home remedies you will also love my lactation bars recipe.

Health benefits of ginger turmeric shots:

Turmeric can help with different health problems including breathing problems, elevated cholesterol, joint pain, fatigue, digestive issues, heart disease, kidney problems and more.

Curcumin, the main natural polyphenol in turmeric, is also known to have antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory properties, anticancer properties and antimicrobial properties.

Ginger has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is known to help with various health issues including pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Lemon juice and orange juice are both naturally high in vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to have a number of health benefits including: plays an important role in bone formation, wound healing, the maintenance of healthy gums, is an antioxidant, protects the immune system, and can help fight infections.

    Ingredient notes and substitutions:

For the full ingredient list and exact measurements refer to the recipe card later in this post.

The ingredients needed to make ginger turmeric wellness shots separated into small bowls including water, orange juice, lemon juice, pieces of ginger, turmeric and honey.
    • Fresh ginger root - I try and find ginger root with fewer knobs on it to make peeling it even easier.
    • Fresh turmeric root - you can usually find fresh turmeric in the Asian produce section of grocery stores.
    • Fresh lemon juice - this is the perfect way to add a little citrus flavour to this drink. I recommend using freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavour.
    • Fresh orange juice - this is added to help balance out the strong flavours of the ginger and turmeric. I recommend squeezing your own orange juice so that it's as fresh as possible.
    • Raw honey - this is used to add a little natural sweetness to these shots and provide even more vitamins and minerals.
    • Black pepper - this is used to help activate the turmeric and help with the absorption of turmeric. Piperine, the active component of black pepper, increases the bioavailability of turmeric by 2000% so it's important that you don't leave it out of the recipe. Instead of black pepper you can also use cayenne pepper.

    Recipe variations and add ins:

    • To give this healthy drink a different flavour you could use coconut water instead of regular water.
    • To make these energy shots vegan: omit the honey or use maple syrup instead.
    • If you don't have fresh turmeric use 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder instead.
    • For even more potential health benefits add 1-2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to the recipe.

How to make ginger turmeric shots:

Lemon juice, fresh ginger, fresh turmeric and honey in a metal blender.

    Step 1

Place all of the ingredients into your high speed blender.

A metal blender filled with orange juice.

    Step 2

Blend everything well until you have a smooth drink.

Orange juice in glass shot glasses with lids surrounded by fresh turmeric and ginger.

    Step 3

Pour through a strainer or sieve into glass shot glasses, glasses or a glass jug, and enjoy!

    Top Tips:

    • Be careful when handling turmeric as it can leave yellow stains on things. I like to wear gloves so that my skin and nails don't get stained, and be sure to cut it on a cutting board rather than your counter top to prevent your counters from getting stained.
    • The easiest way to peel ginger is to run the edge of a spoon along it.
    • Do not omit the pepper from the recipe. It is needed to activate the turmeric.
    • You will need a high speed blender to fully blend this lemon ginger turmeric shot recipe. If you don't have a high-speed blender you may end up with pieces of pulp in your drink. If this is the case you can use a mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain the shots.

    How to serve:

I like to drink this quickly like a shot, but if you would rather sip it you can drink it more slowly from a larger glass. You could also turn this turmeric drink into a mocktail by serving it with 1/2 cup to 1 cup of soda water or sparkling water and adding ice cubes, or you could turn it into a ginger tea by adding hot water to it.

A small glass bottle filled with a ginger wellness drink surrounded by lemon slices, orange slices, fresh ginger and fresh turmeric.

    Ginger turmeric shots FAQs:

Do I have to peel the ginger and turmeric?

I do recommend peeling the ginger and turmeric. If you don't, you will need to use a cheesecloth to strain the juice and remove the peel after the juice is blended. I personally find this messier and more cumbersome to do which is why I recommend simply peeling it first.

Can turmeric shots help with weight loss?

Weight loss is a complex issue, but there have been studies showing that yes, turmeric can help with weight loss.

Can I drink these turmeric shots everyday?

Yes you can drink these shots daily.

What if I can't find fresh turmeric?

You can use 1 teaspoon of powdered turmeric instead.

How should I store this drink?

Store this drink in the fridge in an airtight container or glass jars for up to 3 days. If you want to store it for longer I recommend transferring the drink to an ice cube tray and freezing the cubes to use at a later date.

Can you substitute turmeric powder? If so, how much should you add in place of fresh turmeric?

I'm sure you can but I personally haven't tried it so wouldn't know the exact amount. I would probably start with 2 tsp and then taste it to see if you need to add more. Sorry I don't have a more specific answer. If I do try it I will let you know!
