These chocolate orange overnight oats are the best! They are so easy to make and this healthy overnight oats recipe tastes like a Terry's chocolate orange, yet is made with good for you ingredients. This healthy breakfast is naturally gluten free, dairy free and vegan too.

Why you will love this recipe:

    • This overnight oats recipe tastes amazing! It tastes like a Terry's chocolate orange but it's so much healthier. It also has such a rich and creamy texture.
    • It's quick and easy to make and only takes a few minutes to prepare, just like oat milk hot chocolate.
    • This healthy breakfast recipe is dairy free, gluten free and vegan.
    • It's made with simple pantry staple ingredients including rolled oats, orange juice, cocoa powder and maple syrup. This recipe is also made without yogurt and without chia seeds.
    • It's perfect for meal prep and you can easily make a double or triple batch to have easy breakfasts on hand all week.
    • Kids love this recipe!

If you love the taste of orange chocolate you will also love orange chocolate brownies and homemade orange chocolate fudge.

If you love oatmeal based recipes you will also love granola butter.

    Ingredients and substitutions:

    • Rolled oats - rolled oats form the base of this delicious breakfast. I recommend using rolled oats rather than quick oats or steel cut oats. I personally use oats which are sprouted, glyphosate free and gluten free.
    • Cocoa powder or cacao powder - you can use either of these to give this oatmeal the most delicious rich, chocolate flavour.
    • Flax seeds - ground flax seeds add texture and fiber to this overnight oats recipe.
    • Orange juice - orange juice adds that delicious orange flavour that combines beautifully with the chocolate to make the perfect chocolate orange taste.
    • Orange zest - to add even more orange flavour to these oats.
    • Coconut milk - coconut milk is used as the main liquid for these oats. It helps make them so rich and creamy. I recommend using full fat coconut milk rather than low fat coconut milk. Instead of coconut milk you could use dairy milk (if you tolerate dairy), almond milk, or cashew milk.
    • Maple syrup - maple syrup is used as the natural sweetener to sweeten this oatmeal and keep it refined sugar free. You could also use honey if you prefer.

    Recipe variations and add ins:

    • Feel free to double or triple this recipe.
    • Instead of flax seeds you could use chia seeds or hemp seeds to make these orange chocolate overnight oats.
    • To make it even more chocolatey add some dark chocolate chips.
    • Instead of coconut milk you can use another dairy free milk such as cashew milk or almond milk.
    • To make higher in protein: use greek yogurt instead of full fat coconut milk.

How to make chocolate orange overnight oats:

A glass bowl filled with oats, coconut milk and cocoa powder.

    Step 1

First, add all the ingredients to a large bowl or jar.

A glass bowl filled with a chocolate oats mixture with a spoon in it.

    Step 2

Then stir or shake well to combine all the ingredients. Let everything rest for at least 3 hours, or overnight in the fridge.

    Top tips:

    • You can make these chocolate oats in either a large mason jar or storage container with a lid.
    • I recommend using full fat coconut milk rather than light coconut milk so that these oats turn out as thick and creamy as possible.
    • This makes a large serving of overnight oats. If you prefer a smaller serving you can cut the recipe in half.

    How to serve:

These oats are delicious served as is but you could add some extra toppings such as chocolate chips, cocoa nibs, shredded coconut, nuts, or chocolate shavings.

Overnight oats are usually eaten cold but if you prefer them warm you can heat them in the microwave for about 30 seconds on high heat prior to serving.

    How to store:

Store these oats in an airtight container or jar in the fridge for up to 3 days.

    Chocolate orange overnight oats FAQs:

    Is this oatmeal recipe vegan?

Yes, as written, this overnight oat recipe is vegan and dairy free.

Is eating overnight oats everyday healthy?

Overnight oats can be eaten everyday if you wish. However, most people get bored eating the same thing everyday so I recommend adding some variety into your diet and changing up your breakfast options.

How long are overnight oats good for?

Depending on the recipe, most overnight oats are good for about 3 days if kept in the fridge in an airtight container.
