Jump to Recipe- Gluten-free all purpose flour - if you aren't gluten-free you can use regular all purpose flour.
- Matcha - matcha powder gives these matcha brownies a unique flavour and also a beautiful green colour.
- Cane sugar - do not try swapping this for another granulated sweetener.
- White chocolate chips - add both sweetness and a pretty contrast in colour to the green from the matcha powder.
- Butter - I recommend using unsalted butter but if you do use salted butter, omit the salt from the recipe.
- Eggs - help add moisture and help the brownies become even more fudgy and dense.
How to make matcha brownies:
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line an 8"x 8" glass baking pan with parchment paper. Add the dry ingredients to the bowl of your standing mixer and blend well with a spoon until well combined and there are no clumps in the flour.
- Step 2: Add the wet ingredients to the bowl and use your standing mixer to blend everything well until you have a smooth dough.
- Step 3: Now stir in the white chocolate chips by hand.
- Step 4: Transfer the batter to the baking pan and spread it evenly until it's smooth. Bake the brownies for 22-25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted inside comes out clean. Let the brownies cool completely and then cut them into pieces and enjoy!
Top tips:
- To make these matcha brownies dairy-free: use a vegan butter and dairy-free white chocolate chips.
- Let these brownies cool completely before cutting into them.
- Storage: store these matcha brownies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
- To freeze: freeze them in a freezer bag or airtight container for up to 3 months. I recommend cutting them into pieces before freezing them.
Matcha brownies FAQs:
Matcha goes really well with white chocolate. Matcha has a bitter flavour while white chocolate is rather sweet so the two contrast each other really well.
No! I tried making these brownies with coconut sugar instead of cane sugar and they tasted terrible.
I don't recommend omitting the eggs or swapping the eggs in this recipe. I have not tested this brownie recipe with any egg replacements such as chia eggs or flax eggs. If you do try it please let me know if it works out or not.
Matcha has a sweet, grassy, earthy flavour. It can be a little bitter, but the flavour will also depend on the quality of the matcha. High quality, ceremonial grade matcha has a sweeter taste and is less bitter than lower grade matcha.
