Why you will love this recipe:

    • These caramelized bananas have the most amazing flavour - they turn out perfectly sweet and delicious!
    • It is so quick and easy to make. The bananas only take 5 minutes to cook!
    • These dessert bananas are gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar free, and vegan, just like my air fryer spaghetti squash recipe.
    • These cinnamon sugar bananas can be used in so many ways - eaten as is as a delicious snack or treat or used as a topping for cereal or other desserts.

If you aren't sure which air fryers are safe I have a whole review on the best non-toxic air fryers.

    Ingredients and substitutions:

For the full ingredient list and exact measurements refer to the recipe card later in this post.

Two bananas and jars of avocado oil, coconut sugar, ground cinnamon and vanilla extract.
    • Bananas -  I recommend using semi-ripe or ripe but firm bananas for this recipe.
    • Avocado oil - just a little oil is all you need to fry these bananas. This helps give the bananas that perfect caramelized taste and texture. Instead of avocado oil you could use melted butter, olive oil, vegan butter, ghee or coconut oil.
    • Coconut sugar - to add just the perfect amount of sweetness to this air fryer dessert. You can swap this for brown sugar as well, but I personally prefer coconut sugar to keep this dessert refined-sugar-free.
    • Ground cinnamon - cinnamon and sugar blend perfectly to give these dessert bananas the most delicious flavour.

    Recipe variations and add ins:

    • If you are serving a crowd feel free to double or triple this recipe.
    • Feel free to add other spices such as nutmeg, pumpkin spice, or apple pie spice to these bananas.

How to make caramelized air fryer bananas:

A plate with chopped banana on it.
    1. Step 1: First, slice the bananas into pieces, approximately 1 inch thick.
A bowl with a brown sugar mixture in it with a spoon in the sugar.
    1. Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the oil, vanilla extract, coconut sugar or brown sugar and cinnamon.
Banana slices in a bowl with a cinnamon sugar mixture coating them.
    1. Step 3: One by one, coat the banana slices in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Banana slices coated in a cinnamon sugar mixture on an air fryer tray.
    1. Step 4: Line your air fryer tray or basket with parchment paper and transfer the coated banana slices to the air fryer. Cook the bananas for 5-6 minutes at 380 degrees Fahrenheit. Then enjoy!

    Top Tips:

    • Try to cut the bananas into similar sized pieces so they cook evenly.
    • Make sure the bananas aren't touching each other when you put them in the air fryer or they won't cook evenly.
    • Don't forget to line your air fryer with parchment paper before cooking these bananas slices. Instead of parchment paper you could use aluminum foil instead.
    • Don't use overripe bananas for this recipe - they are too mushy and won't cook properly.

    Serving ideas:

These air fryer caramelized bananas are delicious served on their own but you could also use them to top cereal, ice cream, pancakes with oat flour, French toast, toast in an air fryer, banana bread, waffles, yogurt, oatmeal, protein powder overnight oats, or other dessert recipes.

    Caramelized air fryer bananas FAQs:

Do I have to preheat my air fryer?

No. While some air fryer recipes will ask you to preheat your air fryer, this is not one of them. If you do choose to preheat your air fryer you will need to decrease the cooking time by 2-3 minutes.

Are these the same as air fryer banana chips?

This recipe does not make banana chips. To make air fried banana chips you would need to cook the bananas at a lower temperature for a longer period of time to make the bananas nice and crispy.

Can I store these air fried bananas for later?

These caramelized bananas are best eaten right away but if you do want to save some for later, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day.

    Can I freeze these bananas?

I don't recommend it as they turn out rather mushy when you thaw them.
