    You are going to love this healthy chocolate sauce recipe! It's so easy to make with just five ingredients and this sauce can be used in so many ways. Ready in just a few minutes this sauce is refined sugar free, dairy free, and vegan.

    Why you will love this recipe:

    • The taste! This chocolate sauce is so rich and creamy with the most delectable dark chocolate flavour.
    • It's really easy to make and only requires five ingredients. It takes less than five minutes to make!
    • This chocolate sauce is dairy free, gluten free, soy free, refined sugar free, vegan, plant based and nut free.
    • This homemade chocolate sauce can be used in so many ways including in place of chocolate syrup, for pancakes, for dipping fruit, topping waffles, to top cakes or cupcakes, making chocolate milk or adding to hot chocolate.
    • It stores well and makes great leftovers.

    Ingredients and substitutions:

    • Coconut butter or coconut manna - either of these can be used to create this chocolate sauce. Coconut butter makes for such a rich and creamy chocolate sauce, while keeping it dairy free and nut free.
    • Honey or maple syrup - either of these natural sweeteners can be used to make this chocolate sauce and keep it refined sugar free. If you are vegan be sure to use maple syrup.
    • Cocoa powder - This is what makes the perfect dark and rich chocolate sauce. You can also use cacao powder for this recipe.
    • Coconut oil - this helps make this sauce so creamy without using butter.
    • Vanilla extract - to help enhance the chocolate flavour of this sauce.

    How to make this recipe:

    Step one:

    First, place a small pot on the stovetop on low heat.

    Step two:

    Next, add all of the ingredients to the pot. 

    Step three:

    Stir the ingredients well until they are melted together (about 5 minutes).

    Step four:

    Now serve and enjoy!

    Top tips:

    • Be sure to heat this sauce over low heat. If the coconut butter gets too hot it will form clumps which you don't want.
    • This sauce will harden when stored in the fridge so simply let it thaw or heat it again before using.

    Recipe variations and add ins:

    • You can use coconut butter, coconut manna, or coconut cream concentrate to make this chocolate sauce recipe.
    • Feel free to double or triple this recipe.

    How to use:

    You can use this chocolate sauce for so many things including for topping pancakes, for topping crepes, topping ice cream, for making chocolate milk, for topping cakes and cupcakes, for stirring into coffee or hot chocolate, for dipping fruit or dried fruit, or to eat right from the spoon.

    How to store:

    Store this sauce in the fridge in an airtight container or jar for up to 30 days.

    You can also freeze this chocolate sauce. It can be frozen in an airtight container or jar for up to 3 months. You can also freeze it in an ice cube tray to make single servings of this chocolate sauce which are great for adding to drinks like chocolate milk, hot chocolate, or coffee.

    Is there a difference between chocolate sauce and chocolate syrup?

    Chocolate sauce and chocolate syrup are generally quite similar. Chocolate syrup is often a little thinner or runnier than chocolate sauce which is usually a little thicker.

    Is this a vegan chocolate sauce?

    Yes it is. As long as you use maple syrup to sweeten it.

    Equipment

    • Pot or saucepan

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup coconut butter (or coconut manna)
    • 1/3 cup coconut oil
    • 1/3 cup cacao powder
    • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

    Instructions

    • Place a medium pot on the stove on low heat.
    • Add all of the ingredients to the pot.
    • Stir well until melted together (about 5 minutes).
    • Remove from heat, serve and enjoy!

    Notes

    1. Using low heat is important. If the coconut butter gets too hot it will form clumps.
