What is Faroe Island Salmon?
Faroe Island Salmon is Atlantic salmon that has been raised in the Faroe Islands. The Faroe Islands are located in the Northeast Atlantic where strong ocean currents make for some of the cleanest waters and a unique ecosystem. The Faroe island marine environment is ideal for salmon to grow and thrive. Because of this perfect ecosystem, Faroese salmon is some of the best tasting salmon in the world.
You may have heard about a Faroe island salmon controversy, but it has largely been discredited and it's widely believed that Faroe island salmon is safe to eat.
Why this salmon is so good:
- The waters surrounding the Faroe Islands are rich in many different types of marine life, providing Faroese salmon high quality food to help them grow and thrive.
- Because of the strong ocean currents around the Faroe islands, Faroe salmon develop strong muscle tissue which produces a firm and even consistency that is ideal for eating and gives the salmon its superior quality and taste.
- The Faroe Islands have a rich fishing history that spans generations. This traditional knowledge combined with state of the art technology produces fish that is superior to most other salmon in the world.
- The remote location of the Faroe Islands makes for pristine clear waters, cool steady water temperatures, strong ocean currents and accessible fjords.
Is Faroe Island salmon safe?
Yes, salmon from the Faroe Islands is safe. The salmon are able to roam free in a contained, natural environment, which means they feast on nutrient-rich foods. They are also free from antibiotics.
In 2003, the Faroe Islands implemented one of the most comprehensive and stringent aquaculture veterinarian regulatory programs in the world, which ensures the welfare and quality of the salmon, and protects the salmon from disease and other natural and external pressures.
