Cleaning. Something that we all have to do, and something that's important to keep our homes and surroundings looking their best, but it's also important that we are choosing the right type of cleaning products. Many cleaning products on the market use ingredients that can be harmful to our health, and harmful to the environment, so it's important to choose brands that are both safe for health, and good for Mother Nature.

Fortunately, more and more brands are starting to use ingredients that are naturally derived, nontoxic, biodegradable, and made using sustainable production and manufacturing processes so it's getting easier and easier to find great non-toxic cleaning products that not only work well, but are also safe for us, our pets, and the environment.

However, it is also important to note that currently when it comes to cleaning products there are no regulations for terms like "natural", "non-toxic", or "green" and there are no requirements for companies to list all the ingredients in their products on labels, so it can be very difficult to determine which cleaning products are safe to buy or not. Therefore companies can claim that their products are safe and healthy, even if they are not.

That is why I created this post for you. I wanted to make your life easier and take the guesswork out of determine which cleaning products are worth buying or not. In this review I will share the best non toxic cleaning products including all purpose cleaners, kitchen cleaners, floor cleaners, laundry detergents and more.

The Best Non Toxic All Purpose Cleaners

These are my favourite non toxic all purpose household cleaners. They all work really well, are free from harsh chemicals, are made with eco-friendly ingredients and ingredients that are safe for health. Some are scented with essential oils and most also come in fragrance free options.

AspenClean Natural All Purpose Cleaner

AspenClean makes some of my favourite cleaning products, including their all purpose cleaner. Mint is a women owned, small company from BC, Canada, close to where I live. They make amazing non-toxic and all natural cleaning products. The Mint All Purpose Cleaner is an amazing all-in-one product that is made with natural ingredients and is safe to use on all surfaces. It can fight grease and also contains essential oils like peppermint, bergamot and tea tree oil. It also comes in a reusable and recyclable glass bottle making it eco-friendly too.

Force of Nature All Purpose Cleaner

I recently discovered the Force of Nature products and I love them! The Force of Nature multipurpose cleaner is an EPA registered sanitizer and disinfectant that kills 99.9% of germs with no harsh chemicals. Force of Nature cleaning products convert salt, water and vinegar into a powerful all-in-one cleaner, deodorizer, sanitizer and disinfectant that kills most germs. The science behind how this product works is pretty cool. It can be used in all rooms in your home, including your kitchen and bathroom.

Dr. Bronner's is a well known name when it comes to making non-toxic products, and the Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner is a gentle, all purpose cleaner that is powerful and concentrated enough to clean floors, laundry, dishes, furniture, and cars, but gently formulated so it won’t irritate skin. It is made with plant based ingredients and is scented with pure fir and spruce essential oils. It is made without synthetic dyes, fragrances, preservatives, phthalates or ammonium compounds. Puracy is another one of my favourite non toxic cleaning brands and their multi-purpose cleaner is no exception. Developed by doctors, the plant-based formula effectively removes food, soda, juice, grease, oil, sugar, pet accidents, fingerprints, footprints, lipstick, tree sap, grime, adhesives, soap scum, dirt, spills, streaks, residues, and more. The New York Times even rated this Puracy multi-purpose cleaner as "The Best All-Purpose Cleaner". The Best Non Toxic Laundry Detergents

Effective, non toxic laundry detergents can be really hard to find. I tried so many brands before I founds ones that both work well and are safe for both our health and the environment. It's important to use non-toxic laundry detergents because you wash your clothes in them, and your clothes touch your skin all day. The same goes for your towels, sheets, pillowcases and more. So if there are harmful or irritating ingredients in your laundry detergent, some of those ingredients could get absorbed into your skin, and thus into your bloodstream, which can then impact your internal organs. All of these laundry detergents are free from hash chemicals, are great for removing stains and odors from your clothes and depending on your preference you can choose fragrance free options or scented options.

Like laundry detergents, it can be really hard to find safe, clean and non-toxic stain removers that work well, yet are made with safe ingredients. I have tried a number of natural stain removers that didn't work well, and some of them even gave my husband skin rashes and were very irritating to his sensitive skin. It took me a while to find the best non toxic stain removers, but so far these are our favourite.

I've included as many kitchen cleaners as I could. I have tried a number of brands that didn't work well so these are the best ones I could find. Since our food comes into contact with our dishes and cutlery we need to make sure we are using non toxic ingredients in these cleaning products as well. How to Switch to Non Toxic Cleaning Products

It is always my goal to help you live healthier. But I realize that overhauling your cleaning products can be daunting, and expensive. My biggest tip is to simply replace what you are using with non toxic options once your current products run out. Or if you want to start switching out what you are using right away, I would prioritize the cleaners that you use the most, or any products that come into contact with your skin or your food. Cleaners like your laundry detergent, kitchen cleaner, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, all purpose cleaner and disinfecting wipes.

And if you are looking at other brands that I haven't listed in the post, just be aware that there are many brands that claim to offer a "green clean" or be "all natural" but are actually not.

Unfortunately there is a lot of green washing in the industry, and due to the lack of labelling regulations brands can advertise themselves as green, non toxic, natural or organic, even if those things aren't true. So always be sure to read labels carefully. One of the easiest ways to tell if something is safe for your health or not is by looking for the terms "fragrance" or "parfum" on the ingredient list. If you see either of those terms, steer clear of that product.
